India's alternative railway through Bangladesh

India's alternative railway through Bangladesh

Trains run through the Siliguri Corridor to the north-eastern states of India along with other states known as the 'Chicken Neck'. It lies between Bangladesh and Nepal and is 22 km wide. The new project aims to reduce dependence on this 'chicken neck' corridor.

The 'chicken neck' rail corridor is very important for the transportation of military and civilian goods. This has become a cause of conflict between India and China. As a result, Bangladesh is being added as an alternative route.

The project will have 14 new routes connecting Bangladesh. The routes will have a total of 861 km of railway line. There will be an alternative route over Bangladesh. In total, the railway line in this project will be 1 thousand 275.5 km.

India will establish a new railway line to replace the old railway line with a new railway line in Bangladesh.

Times of India reported that India will build a railway line in Bangladesh with the benefit of the 1980 trade agreement.

“It will reduce travel time from Kolkata to the northeastern states. Easy communication with Bangladesh will increase trade and tourism."

Wants to take a train from one area of the country to another over Bangladesh. India had earlier proposed a test flight from India's Gedde without goods

The cargo-free train of the test journey will visit Chuadanga over Bangladesh. From there it will go to Haldibari station in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal via Chilahati station in Pabna, Abdullahpur in Natore, Parvatipur in Dinajpur, Nilphamari border. According to the new proposal, the train will run from Haldibari to Dalgaon station on the Bhutan border.

Dalgaon is a station in Alipurduar district of West Bengal. New Jalpaiguri-Alipurduar railway line passes through this station. This line connects seven states of northeastern India with the mainland.

This railway is important for India due to geopolitical reasons. Currently, the country's northeast-bound train from Kolkata in West Bengal passes through the 'chicken neck' corridor of Jalpaiguri.

If Darsana-Ishwardi-Abdulpur-Parvatipur-Chilahati is completed in Bangladesh, the distance will be reduced by 300 km. Rail connectivity with the states of Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Arunachal and rest of India will be easy.

As a result, this railway is important for India due to geopolitical reasons and both countries will enjoy easy and timely facilities with Indian North Eastern states including Bangladesh.

India will build a new rail network through Bangladesh.

This time India is planning to open the rail link through Bangladesh instead of going round and round. India is going to build an alternative rail link through Bangladesh to connect the northeastern region of India with other states.
